January is upon us and the start of our new year over at the Sew Along & Sewing Contest fb page! Beginning January 1st we will tackle Jackets, Coats, Capes and Cardigans! Crystal from Sewing Vortex will lead the charge on Jackets and Coats while I will be your Capes and Cardigan hostess.

There are many outerwear garments I want to make, not to mention at least 2 outerwear ufos needing my attention, so I am ready for a good outerwear sew along!

Crystal outlined the basics of our sew along in her pinned post on the fb page linked above but some highlights from her post are:

January 2018: Jackets, Coats, Capes & Cardis!

Qualifying Garments: Any style, difficulty and closure option of coat or jacket, cape or cardigan, provided it’s open all the way down the front. (ie, no pull-overs or half-zip sweatshirts)

How to Participate: Post your finished garment in the appropriate album by 11:59pm EST, January 31st. There will be one album for Coats & Jackets and a second album for Capes & Cardigans. You can begin immediately; no need to wait for January 1st to get started.

You can share as many garments as you like, but there will be only 1 entry per finisher, should there be a prize package for January.

Keep the board fun and active! Post ideas, inspiration, plans, progress, brags, set-backs, questions, technique tutorials and finished garment shots in the feed. Share your Coat Cape or Cardigan journey with us!

I’m going FULL OUT WOOL COAT for January and I’m hoping some of you will join me! To encourage you to participate I have a copy of the Bamboo Coat from Waffle Patterns to give away to one lucky Coat Sewer!

A couple days ago, Crystal gave away the classic and stylish Waffle Patterns Bamboo Coat pdf pattern to launch our sew along!

Waffle Patterns designs and publishes a full line of outerwear patterns for women. For our January sew along I will be sewing their Caramel Duffle Coat.

Years ago I picked up a beautiful Pendleton red plaid wool which just fits the bill for Caramel. I plan to line it with this blue faux quilted fabric purchased from Joann’s last winter! EEEKKKK! I am pretty excited about the entire project and hope to line the hood with a piece of upcycled fur.

Today, on our fb page, I am giving away the Women’s Cowl Neck Poncho from Jenny at Seamingly Smitten.

ponchoThis a great pattern for fleeces and sweater knits and so quick to throw on and run out! Check out the tester photos at Jenny’s website to see beautiful versions of her poncho! And thank you to Seamingly Smitten for their donation.

We have two more great patterns to give away before January and our official start. At the conclusion of the sew along we will be giving away more prizes! Hope you can join us!
